Downspout Drainage

So you’ve checked your gutters to make sure they’re clear and undamaged from the winter. Now that you know all that rain water is going running through your downspout, where will it go from there?

What to look for

  • Are the downspouts draining properly or is there pooling around them? You always want to be sure water is moving away from your house.

  • Is there water pooling around your foundation?

What to do

  • Clear blockages from downspout drain

  • Re-grade problem areas around the house or dig trenches to direct the flow of water away from your home. Moving water away from your house is an important factor in preventing water issues in your basement.

BONUS HOME OWNER POINTS

Water Catchment

Use rainwater to water your gardens or grass. Be fancy, or simply slap a bucket under the downspout. Mother nature is giving your poor grass what it needs but our infrastructure often bypasses that opportunity. Our soils here are very sandy and do not retain water well, which increases our risk of fires. Catch that water and use it!
